Consortium Researchers Lead Investigation into Managing IBD Through Diet
February 13, 2012
Drs Leo Dieleman, Karen Madsen, and Richard Fedorak were successful in their application to the Quality Food for Health Grant sponsored by Alberta Innovates – Bio Solutions. They will receive over $282,000 for the research project Personalized Dietary Therapies for Treating Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
Drs Dieleman et al have recently shown that dietary intake of certain key nutrients can lead to significant improvement in disease activity in patients with IBD. Using this knowledge they plan to develop and assess a personalized dietary treatment plan that emphasizes Alberta-grown food sources of these key nutrients as a means to prevent flares of IBD.
